Church st. Soap Opera Script

Church St.

This soap opera tells the tales of the people who live and work on Church Street, Edgware Road.

Scene one

Greg and Terrie wake up from sleep.

Greg
Terrie. It’s 5. Wake up.

Terrie half awake says.

Terrie
What!

Greg
It’s 5. Wake up. If you don’t wake up you’ll be late for work.

Greg sighs for a couple of seconds and then speaks.

Greg
I’m sorry about the argument last night. I was just stressed from work. I didn’t mean to seem that cold.

Terrie
Greg I’ve had enough of you and this change of attitude. You make everything uncomfortable for me and Justina. I’m sorry to say this, but I want a divorce.

Greg
What!

Terrie
You heard. A divorce. I don’t have to stay with you. Justina’s nearly eighteen.

Greg
What do you mean a divorce?

Terrie
I can’t talk to you when you’re like this. Have a shower. Get ready for work. You’ll be late. We’ll talk about it after work.

Next scene

Neil calls his ex wife Petal.

Petal
Hello.

Neil
It’s me. I’m sorry I missed last weekend. I had work that I couldn’t get out of and it was last minute. Can I have Pete for a four day holiday?

Petal
No.

Petal thinks about it leaving a silence on the phone.

Petal
Wait. I’ll think about it.

Neil
Can I visit him today?

Petal
No. We’re going to the market to get some stuff. Look Neil you know what the court ordered. Stick to that. Bye.

Next scene

Justina is working at the local café. Dawn comes out of her office.

Justina
Hey Dawn. I know this is last minute. But can I have three hours off to go to an interview.

Dawn
Where is this interview?

Justina
It is London College of Communication. Only the biggest ever journalist and art university in Europe. It’s in Elephant and Castle.

Dawn
I don’t know. Justina you should of told me a week ago.

Justina
Please.

Dawn
Alright. Good luck Just.

Justina’s Dad Greg comes in to the café.

Greg
Hey Justina. I just wanted to wish you good luck. You’ve worked hard all year and you deserve this. Don’t let anyone tell you otherwise.

Justina
I heard a bit of the argument between you and Mum last night. Is it that bad?

Greg
No. It’s just a lovers tiff. I look back on it and it was over the silliest thing.

Justina
Right. I don’t want you to break up.

Greg
I better go. I’m losing customers. But good luck yeah. Bye.

Violet
It don’t look like that.

Greg
Honestly. I’m fine. I’m having a doctor’s appointment next Tuesday for a check up.

Greg
Those kids from that drama school Sylvia Young. They are crazy. I swear those kids should be kept inside by curfew on lunchtimes.

Bobby
You can’t work anymore. You need to slow down. Have a tea at least.

Bobby takes Greg to the café.

Bobby
Justina’s not here.

Greg
She has a uni interview. I don’t want her informed of this and my wife. I want her to smash it with flying colours. I know that’s a bit corny, but you know what I mean.

Imogen
Okay. Why not?

Eamon
I just have to go to the loo. I’ll be just a minute.

Rosie watches on suspiciously.

Imogen talks to Maxie.

What happened was a one night stand. It can never happen again. Eamon must never know. Please don’t tell him. I love him and my family. Please don’t ruin our happy home.

Maxie
If you say so.

Hannah
Are you saying he might be the Daddy?

Naomi
I don’t know. He might.

Hannah
Stay away from Eddie. You know his rep.

Naomi
I will. But should I tell him.

Hannah
I don’t know. This one is up to you. Only you can make this decision.

Naomi
I have to tell him. He has a right to know. Right?

Hannah
Good luck.

Eddie
No. I’m sorry. I haven’t seen it here. I can help you look for it though. Naomi. Can you look after my stall for fifteen minutes?

Naomi
Okay.

Eddie, Petal and Pete walk around the market. Imogen finds it and gives it to Pete.

Petal
Thank you so much. Pete loves his action man doll more than me. I don’t think he would of gotten over it had he never seen it again.

Imogen
It’s alright. I have a daughter the same age. I know what they are like at that age.

Petal
Pete. What do you say?

Pete
Thank you.

Imogen goes back to the café.

Petal
Eddie. I’m so grateful for all your help. I don’t know how to repay you.

Petal
Right. See you then.

Terrie
It’s your brother.

Greg
Rusty.
